Crawl Space Moisture and Mold
Challenge
A homeowner was concerned about the musty smell in his home. After researching it, he decided it was more than likely mold but he could find no source of it in the home. After reading about crawl space mold and moisture issues, he contacted our team to come out and do an evaluation.
Solution
Our specialist found high moisture readings, groundwater, and mold in the crawl space and recommended encapsulation. The owner agreed. First, our team applied Mold-X2 mold killer and stain remover to all the beams, base plates, floor joists, subfloor, and wooden building materials in the crawl space. Next, we installed a SmartPipe perimeter drainage system in crawl space, along with a SmartSump pump system with liner, cast iron pump, CleanPump Stand, airtight lid with an airtight floor drain, and WaterWatch alarm system. A condensate pump was attached to the dehumidifier to distribute the collected moisture to the sump pump, along with two dedicated circuits for the operation of the sump pump, dehumidifier, and condensate pump. We then covered the floor and joists with CleanSpace Drainage Matting and a CleanSpace liner. Finally, we placed two remote sensors in the crawl space that send temperature and humidity readings to a base unit inside the home, leaving this customer with a dry and mold free crawl space.
