How To Insulate Air Ducts
Air ducts in an attic can be problematic for the energy efficiency and comfortability of your home. In the summer, attics can heat up to 160 F. If duct work is not insulated, this hot temperature greatly affects the temperature of the conditioned air inside of the ducts. The same is true for the extreme winter temperatures. This causes the HVAC system to work longer and harder, raising energy bills. Plus, air ducts have many small gaps and penetrations in them, allowing conditioned air to leak out of them.
Our solution is to encapsulate ducts with Tite 'N True foam. Spray foam duct encapsulation seals gaps and cracks in air ducts, along with insulating ducts from the extreme attic temperatures. Our best recommendation for attics is to is to encapsulate duct work, seal air leaks through wire holes and can lights, and to cover the attic with TruSoft blown in cellulose attic insulation. The result is a more comfortable home and lower monthly energy bills.
