Can We Test Your Home For Mold? Unfortunately....No.
It happens all the time. A customer calls, worried they have mold, unsure of what to do. Then they ask the question, "Can you come test my home for mold?"
It's not a bad question. As a matter of fact, it's a great question. Unfortunately, the answer is no.
Why would we tell our customers no? We're a mold company, right?
Close, but not exactly. We are a licensed mold remediation company. Our job is to remove the mold, not test for it. It's no fun task to tell a homeowner who is concerned about mold that they need to go through two different resources before the removal process can begin. It's a difficult pill to swallow but it is an important pill.
Mold inspection companies and mold remediation companies are not the same thing. An inspector is the person who tests what type of mold you have and where it is. A remediator is someone who removes the mold. There are some situations that do not require a mold inspection. Likewise, there are some companies who do not require an inspector because they are not licensed and the amount of mold falls below the legal requirements for an inspection. That does not mean they will do a bad job. It just means they will not be able to issue a CMDR (Certificate of Mold Damage Removal).
Once a mold inspector is called in and their reports gathered, they will then write up a protocol.
This is where we come in. There are very specialized steps involved in the remediation process. These steps have to be followed precisely, including containment instructions and scope of removal work in the protocol. Once this process is complete, the areas will be re-inspected by the inspector for clearance. This is why the inspection is separate from the remediation. For one company to do both would be a conflict of interest. Once clearance is obtained, both the inspector and the remediation company will sign the Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation, giving the homeowner legal documentation for insurance companies, mortgage companies, or potential buyers.
So, no, we are not able to test your home for mold, but we can tell you the steps to get there and ensure your home is restored to a healthy and safe living environment.
